Understanding NDIS
The National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) is designed to support Australians with permanent and significant disabilities. Here at GPS, we are committed to helping you navigate the NDIS to access the support you need.
What is NDIS?
The NDIS, managed by the National Disability Insurance Agency (NDIA), funds reasonable and necessary support and services for eligible individuals. It aims to help people with disabilities achieve their goals and improve their quality of life.
Are You Eligible for NDIS?
To determine your eligibility, answer the following questions:
Are you an Australian citizen, permanent resident, or Protected Special Category Visa holder?
Are you aged between 9 and 65?
Do you live in Australia?
Do you need disability-specific supports for daily life activities?
Do you have a disability caused by a permanent impairment?
How Does NDIS Work?
The NDIS funds reasonable and necessary support related to a person's disability. These supports aim to help individuals achieve their goals and improve their independence and quality of life. Examples include:
Therapy for speech or communication skills
Assistance with daily living activities
Equipment for home and community use
Skill development programs
Employment support
Social and community participation
Navigating NDIS with Community Partners
NDIS is delivered with the help of community partners, including Local Area Coordinators and Early Childhood partners. These organisations assist participants in navigating support and services.
Local Area Coordinator (LAC) Partners
Local Area Coordinators assist individuals aged 7 to 64 in navigating and accessing NDIS services.
Early Childhood Partners
These partners support children under 7 and their families with early intervention and NDIS services.
Community Connection
Both partners connect you to mainstream and community services, regardless of NDIS participation.
